City Leaves Park Benches Destruction to the Police

The destruction of park benches, which were given through corporate social responsibility (CSR) program of a company, will be brought into the realm of law. This is because such act is categorized as a criminal offense. Hence, Jakarta Provincial Government will re-inventory the data of damaged park benches.

This is criminal, and is police’s business

Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said this matter is handed over to the police because public facility has been destructed. “This is criminal, and is police’s business,” he stated at City Hall, Tuesday (4/15).

According to Jokowi, the damaged park benches will be replaced with new ones. However, legal process will keep running to give a deterrent effect to the irresponsible people who have damaged the benches. “Damaged park benches will be replaced. But this (legal process) is taking care of first,” he asserted.

Park Benches Stolen, City to Cooperate with TNI/Police

Jokowi also admitted that he will continue to add park benches in the capital city. “Besides to beautify the city, the benches are useful for Jakartans,” he uttered.

As known, Jakarta Provincial Government has installed 340 park benches along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin-Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. But recently, an iron park bench in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta, was damaged by irresponsible people. The bench’s bars were sawed until it is tilting and cannot be used again. From the cut, it is alleged that the perpetrators are professionals and skilled.
